TEAM FURY ANNOUNCES IT'S FIRST IRONMAN ATHLETE
Guilherme “Will” Guimaraes has been a determined athlete since he was a very young boy. Will followed in his father’s footsteps and began learning Judo at 5 years old. Judo was Will’s first black belt. His second black belt was in Taekwondo—Will’s favorite martial art. A native of Brazil, Will also trained in Capoeira, Jiu-jitsu, and Kendo. Will’s martial arts journey culminated when he earned a Gold Medal in Taekwondo at the 1995 Pan-American Games.
Will played Soccer for Santa Monica College, competed in CAD 3 Road Bike Races, Road & Super Moto Motorcycle Races, Cross-Country & Downhill Mountain Bike Races, Marathons, Long-Distance Open Water Events, Surfing Events, and now trains for and competes in Triathlons.
Currently, Will is an active Los Angeles City Lifeguard/EMT and patrols our beaches and open water facilities to ensure public safety. He is also an American Heart Association, CPR, and First Aid Instructor. Many of the facilities he works with are community organizations serving disabled and youth groups.
Will competed in his first Triathlon in June of 2009, three months after the birth of his first child, Lua. Racing in water, on wheels, and on land brings Will closer to the earth and to his true purpose in life. The multiple elements of triathlon provide a spiritual journey for Will and it quickly became clear that he would continue this journey to its ultimate destination: Ironman.
Will has completed a total of nine Triathlons. At the Magic Mountain Man Half-Ironman on October 10, 2010, Will finished fifth in his age group.
On September 9, 2012, Will is going to race in Ironman Wisconsin. Having competed in each leg of the race separately (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run), the true challenge will be stringing all three of these elements together in one race. Together we can prove that with determination, anything is possible!
